Dr. Han Zi Yang was awarded the Agri-food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) Undergraduate Scholarship and pursued an education in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Melbourne. He received multiple awards during his course of studies. Most notably, the J.F.W Payne Exhibition Prize and the Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association (ASAVA) Award for Clinical Proficiency, which was awarded to the top student in final year clinical rotations, relating to the fields of small animal medicine and surgery.

Having worked in the veterinary public health sector for 7 years, Dr. Han has a diverse range of experiences in the local and international regulatory, farming and animal health sectors.
​
He has field experiences working with local Singapore and overseas poultry, swine and ruminant farms and animal-related companies, including feedmills and laboratories. His past appointment as Deputy Director with the Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) focuses on reviewing the animal health-related policies and legislation in Singapore, working on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) initiatives as well as facilitating international SPS trade-related matters. Dr. Han is familiar with the work of international organisations such as the WOAH (World Organisation for Animal Health) as well as the ASEAN Sectoral Working Group on Livestock. He was also closely involved in the drafting of the ASEAN Good Animal Husbandry Practice (GAHP) guidelines for poultry and the Singapore Standards for Good Animal Husbandry Practice for Layer Farms (SS676: 2021). His experience working with ASEAN countries' regulators and international organisations such as the WOAH and FAO provides him a regional and international perspective of the animal health and welfare landscape.
With his years of ground experience in the local animal health and welfare regulatory and legislation scene, his works centers on helping companies navigate through the Singapore regulatory landscape. Dr. Han combines an in-depth scientific background with a strong client-centric mindset. He also has experience working with first-movers companies and start-ups who are developing novel products such as alternative proteins (e.g. insects, cell-cultured meat) and complementary veterinary medicine. Pursuing his interest in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, he obtained his certification as a Veterinary Food Therapist in 2022 from the Chi University, Florida.

Dr. Han was also the Chairperson of the inaugural Singapore Dogs and Cats Vaccination Guidelines working group, which consisted of a team of private and government veterinarians. The vaccination guidelines (published in 2020) provides updated and evidence-backed recommendations that are suited to Singapore's local context, providing technical guidance to pet owners and veterinarians practising in Singapore.

Dr. Han has teaching experiences as adjunct lecturer and associate trainer with local institutes of higher learning in the topics of One Health, local animal health and welfare policies and regulations and veterinary nursing care.
